10月3日中共正式啟動潛伏在香港的各種地下特務組織、黑幫成員襲擊、圍攻參與抗議的學生及市民後。4日晚，逾十萬香港人參加香港專上學生聯會(學聯)號召在金鐘舉行的反黑、反暴力大集會。現場香港民眾高喊，堅決不退卻，無懼更無畏，為香港的未來爭取真普選。
晚間8時，大批群眾聚集到金鐘的香港政府總部前，民眾隨主持人的口令，齊聲呼口號，並同時打開手機燈光，照亮香港夜空。
香港民眾強烈譴責黑幫的暴力行為，要求特區政府立即就黑社會襲擾示威民眾事件做處理。
學聯指出，之所以再次號召民眾，乃因昨天發生了中共黑幫人士的流血暴力衝突，造成許多民眾受傷，他們的訴求之一就是希望藉此活動告訴大家：香港不要暴力。
參與集會的香港學生說，要堅守到底，一位在場的學生說：「因為梁振英等就是想讓我們害怕，我們不害怕。」，另外一名參與集會的學生說：「人不可以這樣自私，只顧保護自己，要站出來。」
